Fort William World Cup | Ticket Launch

Fort William; the event where Kovarik destroyed the field in 2002, names have been made, victories thought in the bag lost and where Ruaridh Cunningham became the first British rider to win a Gold medal at a World Championship event as a Junior competitor. With Steve Peat entering this season as not only Downhill's most winning rider but also reigning World Champion fans will be keener than ever to set eyes on their hero. Can Steve win for only the second time in nine visits to the multi award winning venue? Can Tracy round her tally to five wins and will Rachel Atherton be back on form after a year out from injury? By the time Fort William rolls around on the 6th June, riders will already have started in their quest to put points on the board, Maribor having kicked things off with round one on the 16th May, so the pressure will be on to add to their score. Who will crack under pressure and who will rise to the top?

Fort William tickets go on sale today, read on for the full story:

If you want to see these questions answered then there really is only one way to find out and that is to make the trip to the outdoor sports capital of the UK located deep in the Scottish Highlands and watch the action live. And if this appeals to you, you will surely be interested to hear that tickets are now available over at www.fortwilliamworldcup.co.uk after Sheffield based Steve Peat made the trip north to Edinburgh on Monday to launch the new ‘Downhill Rock and Roll’ themed event. Already looking forward to the event, Steve said “Scotland has some of the best biking terrain in the world, and there’s a real enthusiasm for the sport here which always makes for a brilliant atmosphere. It always helps to have a vocal UK crowd – especially when I’m going to be defending my title!”

Last year’s event captured the imagination of nearly nineteen thousand fans who made the trip north to the slopes of Aonach Mor and this number is expected to rise this year as cycling continues to capture the imagination of the nation. Rare Management’s Mike Jardine today highlighted that the World Cup is more than just a sporting event: “Steve’s such a hero in the mountain biking community we’re sure the crowds will be even bigger as they come to cheer him on as reigning World Champion. It’s all shaping up for a really entertaining and exciting two days, both for fans of the sport and those who’re simply after an action-packed day out or weekend away.”

Of course for those of you not able to make it Pinkbike will be covering all the action with daily updates, results & interviews over the course of the event. And to whet your appetite, here is a reminder of what we had on offer from the 2009 event:

Whats the crack with sam hill? isn't he out with a nackered knee from a moto accident? & what about minnar? has he recovered from his moto accident when he nackered his hip? Does anybody know if they will be doing the full season because with only 5 rounds of the downhill, it would be almost impossible to regain points if only just one round was missed! stooopid UCI - 5 rounds - call that a season?

 pavement eater,
do you stream the race online or how do you watch it on your screen?
  • 3 0
 freecaster.tv
  • 1 0
can you watch any dh racing there? i've noticed people say before they would wake up like at 3 in the morning to watch live but they never say where they watch like its some big secret!!
  • 1 0
Every edition of last years world cup (and championships) was broadcast on freecaster... I believe that it'll be so this year too Wink
  • 1 0
the reason people don't tell many where they watch it is probably ( i think ) to stop too many people streaming it and causing the up-link to go 'laggy' , it's very annoying when you have to shut down and reopen freecaster when it freezes on ya.
Only a guess tho Smile

  • 1 1
If it was a Fender yeah :L
Its an Ibanez. Sorry
Pictures look Wicked though.
  • 1 0
My bad...we call em' fenders here in the states. Maybe i should have written mudguard?

Cheers,
  • 1 0
i can see how this could be confusing to some. Althought, i didnt capitalize the "F" on the word Fender the way you did...implying that Fender is a guitar. I'm aware of that and you can clearly tell that the "guitar" is not a Fender.

Cheers,
  • 1 0
Ahh sorry mate, I know what you mean now. I automatically thought the guitar. My friend had a Steve Peat Fast Fender before so I know where your coming from (Y)
  • 1 2
 top picture looks photoshoped
  • 2 0
Not sure why you think it's Photoshop'd but there is no Photoshop trickery here. It's just a standard exposure. I positioned myself so that the stormy sky would make a nice backdrop, underexposed the sky by half a stop and used fill-in flash to illuminate Steve.
