Alpine Bikes Winter Series - Innerleithen

Last editted Nov 11, 2009 at 16:10
Now that the season’s over, it’s time to chill out and take a break from racing for a few months whilst trying to fit some training in to come back better and faster next year.

And what better way to see how all that training has paid off (or how much that Christmas stuffing has slowed you down) than a friendly winter series?

Descent-Gear/MSC Bikes National Champs 2009

Last editted Jul 27, 2009 at 6:19
Despite many of the top names being absent from the National Points Series, the National Champs still has a place in their hearts. A one off race held each July, the National Champion's jersey is still coveted by the top riders of each category. Last year it was Bala, this year it's Innerleithen, having last held the big one back in the summer of 2000. Then it was Warner who took the win, whilst Steve was out of action with a separated shoulder.

Pearce Cycles Series 2009 | Bala

Last editted Jul 6, 2009 at 1:52
The Pearce races are always good events with good and tight racing on tap, a good atmosphere and sharp organization from the Pearce team. This year the races filled up sharpish, none more so than the flat out but already legendary venue of Bala or, more accurately, Rhyd-y-Felin. The chosen hill for the 2008 National Championships, the track is not necessarily the most technical but what it lacks here, it more than makes up for it in other ways; here’s a reason that virtually all who have raced here rave about the place.

If you have seen some of the Earthed films you will no doubt have seen the Athertons filmed on track and in the nearby quarry which sit in North Wales.

NPS 2009 | Fort William

Last editted Jul 2, 2009 at 16:32
After a fun round 1, technical, steep and challenging round 2, it all moved on for round 3 to Fort William, famed for its speed, brutality and unforgiving nature. The sun was out, the mountains in the background glistened and, if you looked quickly, you could even catch a glimpse of ‘The Ben’, not something which usually goes hand in hand with downhill racing on this famous track.

SDA 2009 | Dunkeld

Last editted Jun 19, 2009 at 5:20
Just a month ago rumors were abound of Dunkeld being flattened and us not being able to race there this year. Whilst it’s not to say that there won’t be issues in the future, riders were certainly thankful that the SDA had managed to circumvent them on this occasion to keep it all running smoothly in the style to which we’ve become accustomed over the years.

MSC Bikes/Descent-Gear NPS 2009, Round 2: Llangollen

Last editted Jun 3, 2009 at 14:32
Was Llangollen the shape of things to come or a one off? Did it push the boundaries too far or just show up those who shouldn't be racing at National level? Whatever the answer to those questions, what came about was a superb weekend of racing on the back of the news that Steve and Si of SPS events will still be running the series in 2010, with another planned trip on the cards to this already infamous venue.

But we're getting ahead of ourselves so why don't we have a rundown of what happened on the steep welsh hillside this weekend?

SDA Round 2: Fort William

Last editted May 20, 2009 at 4:44
Over the years the track known to the world as Fort William has seen its fair share of drama. Snaking down Aonach Mhor at the base of Ben Nevis it is famed for brutality and taking no prisoners and has been host to all manner of races from rounds of the Scottish series, to Nationals and, since 2001, a round each year of the World Cup.

Reaction Downhill: Moelfre.

Last editted Apr 15, 2009 at 17:19
Against a background of news from the first round of the World Cup happening in South Africa, this weekend saw Borderline’s Mike Marsden put on an early season warm up race on the open Welsh hillside of Moelfre. Not normally a venue known for dry races, it was difficult not to draw parallels to the weather in South Africa, with blue skies, dust and a hot sun. Ok, the sun wasn’t hot but our standards are low over here...and there were still a fair few who managed to turn a shade of red normally resplendent on a tomato.

Alpine Bikes Winter Series – Round 2, Innerleithen

Last editted Mar 3, 2009 at 14:47
After a well received first round, expectations were high for round two. The usual questions were running through riders heads in the run up to the event however; was it going to rain, was it going to snow heavily and send things the way of the canceled Hamsterley events?

Alpine Bikes Winter Series – Round 1, Innerleithen

Last editted Feb 4, 2009 at 13:00
Innerleithen is one of those venues that puts a smile on virtually every rider's face, regardless of how wet or cold it is or what track is being used. It has been host to many races over the years, none more important than the legendary winter series, an opportunity for riders to see just how much winter training they still have to do before being able to challenge for the win. One of the local shops, Alpine Bikes, have organized the races for the last few years and, whilst this year only two rounds, should still provide some fun and excitement before the season starts proper...
